So you´d like to start a new branch… We
are happy to support you with resources, procedures, a spread sheet and
Julian, New Branch Coordinator, is happy to answer any questions, call
him on 04 0301 3366. The following will give you an idea of the things you will need to start a new branch: - Agree to work under the banner of the Sydney Organic Buyers Group, its values and objectives.
- Motivated core people to take on the roles of coordinator, accounts and orderer.
- These
people will need to become financial members of an existing Sydney
Organic Buyers Group (the membership money will be transferred once
your account is set up). They will also need to be approved to be
members for the web site. The website contains a lot of documentation
on how to do the day to day running of the group.
- You will need to
establish an account into which your branch´s members can deposit money
and for you to pay for your purchases. It is good if two or three
people are named on this account to ensure flexibility.
- Find a
suitable location for a delivery and pickup point. (Ideally it is easy
to get to by public transport, has a shady spot for deliveries to be
left and secure). You may find that it is at somebody´s house until you
find a public spot like a community centre.
- Register with one of
the organic wholesalers to start receiving their catalogue (use the
name “Sydney Organic Buyers Group – Your suburb”)
- Recruit enough people to make your first order… this is usually around 10 people.
All
up this may take two to three months, but if you are motivated then it
can be faster. In the meantime you can order from any of the other
buyers groups as we are all reciprocal members.
